VR Version of Civilisation VII on the Way

For the first time in its history, Sid Meier's Civilisation series is entering the world of virtual reality. Firaxis and 2K have announced a VR version of Civilisation VII. Developed by PlaySide Studios, Civilization VII VR will launch in spring 2024 exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S platforms.

Adapting the classic 4X strategy experience to virtual reality, Civilisation VII VR will offer players a diorama-style “Command Table”. Players will be able to manage their empires on this table and play from different perspectives by switching between virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) modes. Thus, the tactical depth of traditional strategy games will meet an innovative perspective offered by VR technology.

About Civilisation VII VR

In addition, the game's The Archives feature will allow players to examine their achievements in detailed dioramas. In this way, players will be able to observe the victories they have won and the civilisations they have built much more closely in three dimensions.

Civilisation VR is currently said to be exclusive to the Meta Quest 3 and 3S platforms. However, it is not yet clear whether it will be a permanent or temporary exclusive game for this platform. The fact that Meta has provided financial support for the project reduces the likelihood of the game coming to other VR platforms.

Firaxis and 2K aim to take the series' turn-based strategy approach to a new gameplay dimension with the VR version of Civilisation VII. Especially with the development of VR technology, such innovative projects are expected to increase.
