Take-Two Talks About GTA 6's Development Process

Take-Two, the umbrella company of Rockstar Games, the developer studio of GTA 6, answered questions about the game's development process. The company's CEO Strauss Zelnick said that GTA 6 was fully in development in 2020 and that delaying it to 2026 was a "worthwhile investment".

GTA 6 In Development Since 2020

Rockstar's previous game, Red Dead Redemption 2, debuted in 2018, and it was speculated at the time that this game was also in development. However, according to Zelnick, the actual development process began in 2020, following the pandemic:

"Grand Theft Auto VI began development in earnest in 2020 following the huge success of Red Dead Redemption 2. It is now the most anticipated game of all time."

GTA 6's first announced release date seemed to be 2025. However, according to new information, the game will be released on 26 May 2026. This corresponds to Take-Two's fiscal year 2027. Zelnick says this postponement was a very conscious decision:

"Giving Rockstar the extra time for such a groundbreaking project is certainly a worthwhile investment. The vision and technical complexity of GTA 6 is Rockstar's most ambitious project to date."

In an interview with In an interview with IGN, Zelnick also stated that the game is nearly complete, but the need for "polish" has recently become clear:

"When we set a date, we usually stick to it. However, more time was needed to finalise the vision of the game without restricting it. I fully support this approach."

Surprisingly released last week, GTA 6's second trailer received more than 475 million views across all platforms on its first day. This tangibly expresses how eagerly awaited the game is. Let's see if GTA 6 will indeed be released in May 2026 as scheduled!
