Minecraft 2 Announced, Here Are The Details

Minecraft creator Markus “notch” Persson announced the first big news of 2025 on platform X. Persson said that he is working on the Minecraft 2 project, confirming that a new game, a spiritual sequel to Minecraft, is in production.

Markus Persson's full statement about his new project is as follows:

I sort of announced Minecraft 2.
I thought maybe people REALLY want me to make a game very similar to the first game, and I started to like making games again.
I don't care too much about which game I make first (or if I make more games), but I know I'm going to make a game. So I decided to give Minecraft an honest chance in the form of a spiritual sequel, and to do a poll about it.
My intention is to be open and honest; to admit that spiritual sequels usually fail. Tragic. I'm going to try to prevent what I fear might happen to my next game by doing something like this anyway. So why not do something that people REALLY want and are willing to make me money somehow, even MORE money?
I intend for that money to be spent on good things. But God knows I've learnt that winning means failing until you start winning.
I also very much value being a man of my word, so I intend to do this in a way that doesn't surreptitiously infringe on the incredible work that the Mojang team is doing and Microsoft's achievements in this "Microsoftisation". I respect them doing their own thing, it's their business. And as I understand it, they let the studio do things their own way, which seems pretty fair to me.

About Minecraft 2

In the survey conducted by Persson, who wanted the actors to take a more active role this time, fans stated that they wanted this series to continue. However, the sale of the Minecraft series to Microsoft changes things. When asked whether he would like to work with Microsoft again, Persson replied as follows:

"If for some reason microsoft wants me to do it and we can somehow agree on terms, I would certainly be willing to do it. I would even give them a much larger share to make it clear that I do not do this in bad faith. But working with me will be extremely difficult."

Persson is currently calling his game Adventureland. Although there is no clear explanation about the plot of Minecraft 2, the producer says that this new game follows in the footsteps of the old one (albeit with minor differences). Despite this, we should also say that the information we have consists of small question-and-answer activities conducted by the developer on X.

When will Minecraft 2 be released? We don't know yet, but we can say that the game is in early development. We know that it took 2 years to bring the Minecraft game up to date. This new game could take much longer than that, depending on the engine used, its features and the developer's vision.

Minecraft series is currently owned by Microsoft, not Persson. Therefore, the new game may not come directly under the name Minecraft 2. However, since the creator of the series is also behind this work, we think we will encounter a similar experience to the previous one. So we can keep our hopes high.
