Major Balatro Update Postponed

Indie developer LocalThunk has announced the postponement of the 1.1 update for the highly successful game Balatro, which was planned for release this year. The developer explained that instead of rushing the process, they prefer to work with a 'hobbyist' approach, similar to when they first started the game.

Why Was the Balatro 1.1 Update Postponed?

In a statement titled 'I'm Slow,' LocalThunk apologized to players, saying:

“I really shouldn’t have announced a date. I feel bad that I couldn’t keep my word, and I’m sorry.”

The solo developer, who has been working alone since Balatro's release, first worked intensively on the balance update and the mobile version. After a short break, they started working on the 1.1 update. However, instead of pushing through with 12-hour crunch days, they chose to continue with a hobbyist mindset, similar to the game's initial development period.

LocalThunk added that the idea of rushing the work made them feel bad, stating:

“I work slowly, but I'm happier this way. I have never given a firm date for any of my creative projects before, and I've realized how important that is for my process.”

The developer stated they want to continue developing games in a healthy way for the long term, and that the 1.1 update will be released 'when it's done' and will be free on all platforms.
