FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE Announced

Developer Team NINJA and publisher Koei Tecmo have announced that the legendary horror game series FATAL FRAME is making a comeback with a new game! The first trailer for FATAL FRAME II Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, which was surprisingly released last Saturday, is set to launch in the early months of 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

This Japanese horror game, which will be a remake of FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly originally released in 2003, tells the story of twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, who get lost in an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits. With the Camera Obscura, the sisters can capture spirits, uncovering a terrifying past with every step they take.

In the remake project, as seen from the trailer, both visual and audio quality have been updated. Additionally, the core gameplay systems and controls have been enhanced to meet modern standards.

The Camera Obscura mechanic, which allows us to capture and exorcise spirits, continues to be a core feature of the game. Developer Team NINJA promises to deliver a more immersive gameplay experience in both exploration and combat sequences by refining this mechanic. Additionally, the new “Holding Hands with Mayu” mechanic adds a poignant emphasis on the deep bond between the sisters.
