Elden Ring Outsold the Dark Souls Series

Publishing studio Bandai Namco has announced that Elden Ring has outsold the entire Dark Souls series. The game's sales figures, which were announced as 25 million in June, reached 28.6 million with the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on pack, selling 3.6 million more. Developer studio FromSofware's action and role-playing game series Dark Souls lagged behind with a total of 27 million.

FromSoftware's Elden Ring, released in 2022, reached 28.6 million sales in 2 years and 10 months. The game, which was selected as the game of the year in 2022 when it was released and had stable sales graphics, managed to sell 3.6 million more in 6 months with the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on pack released on 21 June 2024. On top of these announced numbers, X user @ZhugeEX reminded us that the Dark Souls series sold 27 million before the release of Elden Ring.

FromSoftware released three games in the Dark Souls series in 2011, 2014 and 2016 respectively. Set in FromSoftware's similar dark fantasy universe, Elden Ring added to the studio's success with its large open world map. The game, in which we fight powerful creatures like in the Dark Souls series, was a more popular choice because it allowed us to escape to the open world when we were struggling and to improve ourselves with weak objectives.

The Game Awards 2024‘s co-op side game, Elden Ring Nightreign, is set to break more sales records. Nightrein, which up to three people can play together, will take place in Limgrave and our main goal will be to survive. With a total of 8 big bosses, the game will bring us face to face with these challenging monsters in a cycle that refreshes every three days and three nights.
