Borderlands 4 Reached 200,000 Players in Four Hours

Borderlands 4 broke the series' all-time launch record by reaching over 200,000 concurrent players on PC just a few hours after its release. However, the game is currently rated as “Mixed” on Steam due to technical issues.

According to SteamDB data, Borderlands 4 reached a peak of 201,273 players on its launch day. This figure stands out as the highest concurrent player record for the Borderlands series to date.

Borderlands 4 managed to enter the bestsellers list on the PlayStation Store in its launch week and is also at the top on Steam. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford is very confident in the game's sales potential. According to Pitchford, Borderlands 4 will push the series' total sales to over 100 million units. Projections indicate that the game could sell 6 million copies during its launch period.

Pitchford's statement is as follows:

“Many people thought Borderlands would not be successful. Now, we will easily surpass the 100 million sales mark with this launch.”

Although the game's sales and player interest are quite high, a serious optimization issue stands out in the Steam user reviews. Problems frequently reported by players include FPS drops, choppy cutscenes, crashes, and bugs. These issues have led to a decrease in the game's overall review score.
