It has been confirmed that Netflix's long-awaited BioShock movie will be based on the first game in the series. In an interview with The Direct, producer Roy Lee confirmed that director Francis Lawrence's film adaptation will be directly based on the first BioShock game, released in 2007.

Although there was no clear information about the movie before, many fans thought the story would be completely original. However, Lee put an end to the rumors by saying, “This movie will definitely be based on the first BioShock game.” The producer also mentioned that Netflix does not want to release much information about the film.

Francis Lawrence, known for the Hunger Games series, is in the director's chair. Lawrence is currently busy with the filming of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production on the BioShock movie is expected to begin after this film is released in 2026.
