A New PlayStation Studio Founded: Dark Outlaw Games

Sony has established a new first-party studio under the PlayStation Studios umbrella: Dark Outlaw Games. The studio is headed by Jason Blundell, one of the creators of the Call of Duty Zombies mod.

Blundell spent 13 years at Treyarch, where he was instrumental in developing one of Call of Duty's most iconic modes, Zombies. In 2020, after leaving Activision, he co-founded Deviation Games to develop a PlayStation exclusive. However, the new IP that Deviation Games was working on was cancelled without releasing any games and the studio was shut down in a short time.

About New PlayStation Studio Dark Outlaw Games

In an interview with Jeff Gerstmann, Blundell said that Dark Outlaw Games is currently in the team building process and that they are not yet ready to share more details about their project.

"I'm delighted to have the chance to build a new studio under the Sony umbrella, and when we have something to share, we will step out of the shadows and into the light."

The details of the studio's next game are still to be finalised and the game's release is probably several years away. Blundell stated that the team is trying to get used to each other and harmonise. Blundell also confirmed that he will serve as both studio head and director at Dark Outlaw Games.

Although it is not known for now what the new studio is working on, Sony's move could bring a brand new and ambitious game to the PlayStation ecosystem. Let's see what kind of games await us in the future!
